Recovery Food

It's the wee hours of the morning. You just had an awesome time partying and drinking with friends. You're calling it a night but just before heading home, you feel the need to wear off the buzz, and sink your face into a big bowl of a nice, hot meal. You need to recover. Where do you go? You go to Recovery Food.

Martin and I recently went to UP Town Center for brunch because we wanted to check out the newly opened restaurants there. We got there a little before 11am, and to our surprise, a lot of the restaurants were still closed. It's a good thing that Recovery Food, which I have also wanted to try for a while now, is open 24/7 so it seemed like the odds were pointing us to that direction. The fact that it's open 24/7 also makes it the perfect place to eat at after a crazy night of partying to get the hangover out (Martin and I were anything but drunk when we went there, though).

Their specialty are their rice bowls which I imagine is perfect after a few drinks and you're starting to lose control of your motor skills, i.e. handling your utensils. Their best-sellers are the Tapa de Morning and Happy Beef Rice which are what we ordered. The Tapa de Morning is your classic Filipino tapa with a sweet-salty marinade, served with an egg, rice and a side of ensalada. While others tapas can be dry and over-fried, theirs was still juicy.  I had the Happy Beef Rice which is sort of their version of Pares which is beef cooked in a sweet soy sauce and topped with spring onions. It also reminded me of the of Beef Brisket Rice Toppings in Chinese Restaurants which have a sweet, anise-infused flavor. We both ordered beef dishes, and while beef can be tough, for both of our dishes, the meat was very tender.

You also have a choice between having white rice or brown rice which is great for those who are a bit more health-conscious. Their servings also come in half and full recovery size which to me is a really good idea because some people can't really finish big servings, so you're not wasting food.

So, if you ever find yourself just wanting some simple, no fuzz, comfort food that's perfect for refuelling and recovering after a fun night out or some strenuous physical activity, check out Recovery Food!
