Authentic Hong Kong Roasts at Famous Kitchen

If you're someone who likes hole in the wall restaurants that serve exceptionally delicious food that can stand on its own without a need for fancy ambiance, then Famous Kitchen along Scout Tobias in Quezon City should be next on your must-try list.

This humble joint serves authentic Chinese dishes, specializing on Peking Duck, Roast Pork Belly, Char Siu BBQ, Soy Chicken, and White Chicken. When you arrive, they will give you a small clipboard with their menu and a pencil, and you just mark the dishes that you want to order. Their menu is limited and is mainly meat dishes, but while this may put off some vegetable lovers, I like how this allows them to focus on cooking these few dishes really well. We had three of their best-sellers, the Peking Duck, Roast Pork Belly, and the Soy Chicken.

I was really excited to try the Peking Duck at the sight of the skin that was beautifully glistening. The skin was a little crispy and the meat was moist and tender. I also enjoyed the Roast Pork Belly. It had a subtle flavor, almost just salt and pepper, but it was perfectly seasoned that I didn't even find the need to add any sauce to it. The best part, of course, is the crispy pork skin. I couldn't get enough of it. The Soy Chicken was good but nothing extraordinary about it. If you're visiting for the first time, definitely go for the duck and the pork belly. I don't think I can go to a Chinese restaurant and pass up on the chance to have some century egg so I ordered some as a side which definitely made me really happy.

While waiting for our food, we were choosing our drinks from their self-service chiller, and we were intrigued by the beautifully packaged Lick Iced Tea. We honestly thought it was imported (since there was even a dollar price on the label), but were pleasantly surprised to find out that these are proudly made in the Philippines. All the flavors were so refreshing but my favorite was the Peach. It's also good to note that these are packaged in glass bottles which are better for the environment.

If you're craving for authentic Hong Kong roasts, no need to book a flight. Famous Kitchen in Quezon City is as good as it gets.
