One night, my Dad cooked some fried chicken, and I thought of this naughty idea of cooking up some potato chips in the same oil where the chicken was fried for the extra flavor. Now, I know that's not healthy at all but we're all entitled to a little treat once in a while.
Ingredients:
Potatoes
Cooking Oil
McCormick Italian Seasoning
Salt
1. Peel your potatoes and slice thinly. Make sure your slices are thin enough or else your chips won't get crispy.
2. Once your oil is hot, fry your potatoes until crisp and golden brown. Don't overcrowd your pan so that your chips will cook evenly, and will crisp up. As mentioned, I used the cooking oil used for our fried chicken because it adds more flavor to the chips. However, you can simply use new oil if you prefer that.
3. Once they're crisp and golden brown, take your potatoes out, and drain the excess oil on a paper towel.
4. Season your chips with salt and Italian Seasoning to taste. Make sure to season them while they're still hot so that the salt and herbs will stick to the potatoes. If you don't have Italian Seasoning, you can use whatever your preferred dried herb is, or you can also have it with just salt.
5. Once your potatoes have cooled down, you can transfer them to your serving dish. It's important to not to mix a hot batch of potatoes with ones that have already cooled, or else they'll go soggy. Make sure each batch is crisp and cool already before transferring to your serving dish.
6. Serve, and enjoy!
Homemade potato chips are very easy to make, so the next time you have friends over, or just want something to munch on while watching your favorite TV show, fry some up! The feeling of making your own chips is definitely more satisfying than simply ripping open a bag of store-bought ones.
