My family seems to have made it a ritual to go to the Quezon City Memorial Circle on weekends. And no, it's not to have a cliche family picnic nor to rent one of those cheesy swan paddle boats. We go there for the incredibly fresh Benguet organic vegetables!
We first found out about the Benguet Organic Producers Association (BEOPA) stall there when my Dad scored some beautiful cherry tomatoes and red radishes from there (you can read my blog post about it here). Since then, we've been coming back every week for some fresh produce.
Aside from the produce being all organic, what I love about buying food here is that the ones selling are the farmers from Benguet themselves. So, not only are you getting fresher fruits and vegetables, you're also providing a sustainable livelihood for our local farmers.
We usually just get vegetables (we love their cherry tomatoes, cucumbers and sweet potatoes), but you can also buy all sorts of delicacies. You don't have to drive all the way up to Baguio anymore just to get your hands on some strawberry jam or ube! They also have various Benguet novelties that you might fancy if you're into those things.
I'm not sure about their schedule but we usually visit there on Sunday mornings, and they're always there. I have very strong feelings about supporting our local farmers so I highly recommend that you go check out the BeOPA stall if you're in QC Memorial Circle!
