Den in the Kitchen: Steak ala Pobre

Everyone has their own version of how they make steak ala pobre, but an "ala pobre" dish is basically meat that's cooked with lots of garlic and gravy. Whenever my family cooks steak at home, this is how we make it. It's so easy to make but you won't believe how tasty and flavorful it turns out to be! Now, this of course, is unlike the expensive Grade A steaks that you get in a fine dining restaurant, but it's perfect if you want to prepare something special for a relaxed meal at home.

Ingredients:

T-bone steak
Oyster Sauce
Garlic
Pepper

Gravy:
Butter
Cream of Mushroom

1) Pour some oyster sauce and pepper on your t-bone, and rub it all over the meat until it is fully covered. Make sure to massage the meat well to make it tender (don't be gentle). I also like to poke it a bit with a fork to break up the fibers to make the texture of the meat softer.

2) Sauté some garlic until golden brown. Make sure not to burn them or else they will become bitter. Once done, set aside.

3) In the same pan where you cooked the garlic, cook the steak in a little bit of butter or oil depending on how done you want it to be. When you're cooking the meat, don't press on it or move it around too much so that you won't lose the juices.

4) Once cooked, removed the steak from the pan and let it rest so to keep all of its juices in.

5) Sprinkle the toasted garlic on top of the steak to infuse it with flavor, and serve with gravy.

6) In the same pan, add some butter to the drippings and little brown bits left at the bottom of the pan. That's what's going to give a lot of flavor to our gravy.

7) Pour the cream of mushroom in the pan and stir until it has a thick, gravy-like consistency.

8) Serve with gravy, and enjoy!

Why spend a lot of money on steak when you can have an easy, affordable and delicious steak meal at home?
