I was recently invited, together with other bloggers, to try some of the dishes of Pearl River Cafe which specializes in Cantonese cuisine.
For starters, we had the Pan Fried Chives Dumpling (P99) which has to be one of my favorite dishes we tried. The wrapper was thick and chewy, and the chives filling had an earthy but bright flavor. It's perfect for those who like vegetable dishes. We also had some Deep Fried Golden Roll with Seafood (P199) which had vegetables and crab stick inside. Unlike other spring rolls, this one had a breading crust around it giving it some crunch.
It was raining a bit that day and their Noodles & Soup with Stewed Beef Shank (P199) which had a sweet and spicy flavor combination was a nice dish to warm us up. Aside from that, we also had the Congee with Mushroom & Chicken (P199). Normally, I prefer Congees that are loaded with toppings but really liked this one with its more subtle flavor. It went perfectly with the Century Egg (P89) which is one of my all time favorite Chinese delicacies.
The Sweet and Sour Pork Belly (P279) had a nice crunchy crust but I found the sauce to be a little too sweet that it already tasted like candied pork for me. Something lighter would be the Steamed Fish in Garlic (P199) which had a soft and buttery consistency. I also enjoyed their Crispy Chicken (P499) which had its glistening crispy skin as the best part. Of course, no Chinese feast would be complete without some fried rice and for us, we had their fluffy Fried Golden Rice with Scallop & Egg White (P194).
Unlike other restaurants, their Iced Teas are organic so I had their Passionberry Fruit Tisane (P68). However, after seeing the Milk Tea being poured from a kettle over ice, it looked so good that I kind of wished I had ordered that instead. I wasn't able to try it but the other bloggers who ordered it said it was good.
