Ally's All Day Breakfast

All day breakfast places are some of my favorites when it comes to restaurants because who wouldn't want breakfast food any time of the day? I'm always on the hunt for some good ones, and one day, my boyfriend Martin and I were searching for one in the Maginhawa area, and discovered Ally's All Day Breakfast Place.

Ally's All Day Breakfast Place is known for making breakfast interactive with their Do-It-Yourself Pancakes and Waffles. When you get their menu, the page for their pancakes and waffles looks like you're answering a survey, complete with boxes to tick for every step. From the flavor of your pancake, to the toppings, to the syrup, and even down to the name (we named ours the "DenTin pancake"), you can customize it. For our DenTin pancake, we had classic pancakes with bananas, almonds, blueberries and maple syrup. They actually forgot to include the blueberries in our pancake, and just served it separately on a condiment plate. We were hoping that they would give us fresh blueberries but they served us blueberry preserve (the same as what you find on top of blueberry cheesecakes). But blueberry mishap aside, their pancakes were really good. Light, fluffy, and so huge that we actually weren't able to finish them.

I don't know why but Tapa for breakfast is just so irresistible to me, so naturally I had to try their Batangas Beef Tapa. It's served with two eggs, and rice. I love how their rice and beef are topped off with some toasted garlic bits since I love the combination of garlic and beef together. I also liked how their tapa isn't too sweet. The beef was very tender, but the tips of the tapa are a little bit toasted, giving the beef a nice crunchy crust.

Martin had the Daing na Bangus which had a really good sour-salty flavor balance. It was perfectly fried to a beautiful golden brown color, making the whole fish crispy that Martin was able to finish almost everything -- down to the fins and whatnot.
